Yoshikoshi Eizan

Shakuhachi
Born in Kasugai City, Aichi Prefecture, Yoshikoshi Eizan began learning Tozan-ryū shakuhachi under Nomura Hōzan. He graduated from the Tokyo University of the Arts (Geidai), and completed the Master's course at the Graduate School of Music at the same university. During his time at university, he studied under Nomura Hōzan, Fujiwara Dōzan, and Takemura Kōmei. He won second place in the 23rd National High School Japanese Music Competition. In 2013, he passed the NHK Hōgaku Audition and appeared on NHK-FM's "A Moment of Japanese Music." He won the Excellence Award in the Japanese Instruments category at the 30th Ichikawa City New Performer Competition and the Silver Award at the 45th Tozan-ryū Honkyoku Competition National Tournament. He was a scholarship recipient of the Aoyama Music Foundation in 2018. In 2019, he was a scholarship recipient of the Nomura Academic Foundation. In 2020, he completed the Sankyoku training course under the Agency for Cultural Affairs' "New Artist Development Project." Currently, he is a Tozan-ryū Shakuhachi Association master instructor (Shihan). He is a member of the Tozan-ryū Hozan Association and the Japan Sankyoku Association.
