Shakuhachi
Born in Osaka in 1923, the eldest son of Ueda-ryū iemoto Ueda Hōdō. Studied shakuhachi with Konō Tamamizu, then in 1940, with his father. Joined the Japanese army in 1944 during the second World War. Succeeded his father as iemoto of Ueda-ryū in 1970. Also in 1970, was appointed as chairman of the Kyotake Zen Buddhist Memorial Service. In 1980 he was the facilitator for the dedication of the Todaiji Great Repair and Completion Act. Given an accomodation by the Governor of Osaka Prefecture in 1989. Passed away in 2004.
