Ishikawa Azan (Ishikawa Kōji) was born May 1, 1917. He studied Tozan-ryū shakuhachi under Hoshida Ichizan I, achieving the rank of Dai-Shihan (grand master) and the title Chikurin-ken. He was the owner-operator of a musical instrument manufacturing company.
