Inotani Kikuzan (Inotani Takeo) was born March 25, 1925. A graduate of Wakayama Technical School, he studied Tozan-ryū shakuhachi under Motoya Sōzan (a student of Ikeda Seizan I), achieving the rank of Dai-Shihan (grand Master), and the title of Chikurin-ken, the highest recognition bestowed upon members of the Tozan-ryū. He served as an advisor for the Tozan-ryū Wakayama Branch.
