Born In Okayama City on December 1, 1928, Akimoto Eizan (Akimoto Shoji) studied Tozan-ryū shakuhachi under Maruno Kōzan, (a student of Nakao Tozan), eventually achieving the rank of Dai-Shihan and the title Chikurin-ken.
