Jamie Hogetsu Orfanella had been a professional musician and educator for almost 30 years. He is currently the director of instrumental music atr Valley View Middle School, the Jazz Band director at Wyoming Seminary Upper School, and the jazz coordinator at the Performing Arts Institute at Wyoming Seminary. He has a degree in music education from the University of North Texas where he was a member of the North Texas Jazz Singers and several lab bands and jazz combos.He is an active jazz and world music, multi-instrumental clinician presenting workshops and classes at various schools, colleges, and festivals. As a freelance trumpet player, he performs in a wide variety of styles from jazz to rock to classical. He is half of the world/ambient/jazz duo Tribal Waves and a member of the popular band Daddy-O and the Sax Maniax. Jamie was the leader of the a cappella group Cincopella from 1993-1997 and the 7 piece swing band Molten Swing from 1999-2001 Jamie is a licensed shakuhachi teacher studying under Grand Master Ronnie Nyogetsu Reishin Seldin. The shakuhachi led Jamie to connections with other areas of world music in which he has immersed himself. As a didgeridoo player and crafter, he has been influenced by many of the finest players including Stephen Kent, Lewis Burns and Jeremy Donovan. His array of instruments from around the world also includes the bansuri, xiao, danso, khlui, quena, dizi, hulusi, duduk, kalyuka, kaval, koncova,Native American flutes, pennywhistle, jaw harps, ocarinas, ukulele, the EWI midi wind controller and a variety of other wind and percussion instruments.
