Kawasaki Takahisa

Kawasaki Takahisa began learning Kinko-ryū shakuhachi at a young age from his father, Kawasaki Ginpō. After that, he studied Kinko-ryū and Fuke shakuhachi under the head of San'in Shakuhachi Dōjō, Kakei Shūgetsu, and is currently studying a wide range of music from classical honkyoku to modern Japanese music under the head of Shakuhachi Kifū-kai, Mitsuhashi Kifū. He graduated from the 50th NHK Japanese Music Skills Development Association. Kawasaki is a member of the Kinko-ryū Shakuhachi Kifū-kai and branch manager of the Kifū-kai Kyoto Classroom. He is also a member of the Japan Sankyoku Association and a member of the San'in Shakuhachi Dōjō. He won the 5th Shakuhachi Newcomer Championship, the Modern Japanese Music Research Institute Award and the Japan Society for Contemporary Music Award at the 8th Tokyo Japanese Music Competition. He is also the winner of the 1st International Shakuhachi Competition, the 12th Novy International Music Competition (highest ranking in the category) and the Jury Special Award, as well as the Folk Music Category at the 13th Osaka International Music Competition. He continues working on a wide range of music from classical honkyoku to modern music, and actively performs sessions with Western instruments and collaborates with various genres. He also devotes himself to teaching in order to popularize shakuhachi music and Japanese music and to nurture the next generation.
