Shakuhachi
Born in 1986 in Tokyo, Ōga Yūji graduated from the Faculty of Letters, Chuo University. He completed his Masters studies in Japanese Music at the Graduate School of Music, Tokyo University of the Arts and completed the 54th NHK Japanese Music Skills Training Association. Started playing the shakuhachi at the age of 18. He studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi and classical shakuhachi under Sugawara Kuniyoshi and Honma Toyotaka. He also studied Myoanji-shodenkyoku under Seian Sakai Genshin. He continued his Kinko-ryū shakuhachi education under Takemura Kōmei while enrolled in graduate school. Though mainly performing in Tokyo, he performs both domestically and abroad. Ōga has received numerous awards, including the Hase Kengyō Memorial Kumamoto National Japanese Music Competition Excellence Award. Belongs to the Sugawara Japanese Music Research Lab. He is a member of the NPO Japan Music Group and Famikoto. Ōga is a lecturer at Gakushuin University's Japanese Music Circle "Tamao" and Tokyo Metropolitan University's "Sankyoku-kai".
