Takuya Iwata passed the NHK Japanese Music Audition in 2002. At the Hase Kengyō Memorial National Japanese Music Competition in 2004, he was the youngest person to win the Grand Prize and the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Encouragement Award. He was recognized by his hometown, Tokoname City. Iwata won the 6th Tokyo Japanese Music Competition in 2009, and the International Shakuhachi Competition (Kyoto) in 2012. He's performed in shows for Junko Koshino and Christian Dior and was a stage member of Fuyumi Sakamoto from 2010 to 2016. He has appeared on TV shows such as "Kohaku Uta Gassen" and "Geino Hana Butai" (NHK). In 2010, he performed in front of the Crown Prince at the NHK Japan Prize Award Ceremony. As leader, he has Takuya Iwata @MAKI Zanka (Takuya Iwata, Yoshihiro Ito, Falcon) They are pioneering new possibilities for the shakuhachi with their unconventional and unique performance style and heartfelt expression.
