Inoue Ganzan (Inoue Eiichi) was born December 19, 1905 in Gifu Prefecture. He studied Tozan-ryū shakuhachi under Ibe Shizan and became an instructor in 1927. He was the head of the Gifu Prefecture branch of the Tozan-ryū Shakuhachi Gaku-kai, head of the Tozan-ryū Gifu Executive Committee, and Vice President of the Gifu Hōgaku-kai. He devoted more than 50 years to teaching and performing shakuhachi.
