Born October 28, 1921 in Aichi Prefecture, Okamoto Shinpō (Okamoto Shin’ichi) studied Tozan-ryū shakuhachi under Ikeda Seizan I. He became an instructor in 1970. He belonged to the Nagoya Aoi-kai and the Tozan Ryū-hō branch.
