Ōyama Kizen
Shakuhachi

Ōyama Kizen was born in Kanagawa Prefecture.
He studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Matsuyama Ryūmei. He also studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi, Fuke-ha honkyoku, and Nezasaha Kinpū-ryū under Mitsuhashi Kifū. Influenced by his father, Ōyama Myōzen, he learned several koten honkyoku from the Myōon-kai of the temple, Kokutai-ji.
He completed the 55th NHK Japanese Music Skills Training Association and successfully passed the NHK Japanese Music Audition.
He has performed in dedication performances at many temples and shrines, including the Izumo Taisha Shrine Heisei Grand Shrine Relocation Celebration and performed overseas in Germany, Korea, and other countries.
By studying many koten honkyoku pieces, he has gained a multifaceted perspective on the repertoire, which he reflects in his own sense of musicality. While placing importance on classical honkyoku, he continues to explore new ways of expressing shakuhachi.
Ōyama is a member of the Kinko-ryū Shakuhachi Kifū-kai, a member of the Japan Sankyoku Federation, and a member of the Kinko-ryū Association.
He is also a special lecturer at the Japanese musical instrument special seminar JPC (Japanese Pop Culture) at ESP Entertainment College, Osaka.
