Shakuhachi

Born in Wakayama Prefecture in 1987, Tsujimoto Yoshimi is a female shakuhachi player who graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts. She started playing the shakuhachi upon entering high school and graduated from the Faculty of Music at Tokyo University of the Arts. She has attracted media attention since she was a student. With her solid technique and engaging personality, she is active in a wide range of genres from traditional Japanese music to pop music. Her activities transcend national borders and she has performed overseas 53 times in 33 cities in 24 countries, including the US, Italy, France, and Brazil. In 2015, a video of Tsujimoto covering a pop song made a huge sensation on social networking sites around the world. This experience inspired her to form her solo project, "Bamboo Flute Orchestra," with the hope that people of all ages around the world will become interested in learning more about the charm of this traditional Japanese instrument. In 2016, she made her major debut as the first ever female solo shakuhachi player with the album "SHAKUHACHI" from SME Records.
