Ikegami Kōzan (Ikegami Isamu) was born October 28, 1929. After graduation from middle school, he studied Tozan-ryū shakuhachi under Fukumitsu Tozan (a student of Konishi Takuzan), achieving the rank of Dai-Shihan and title of Chikurin-ken. He served as a member of the Tozan-ryū Jun-Shihan Examination Committee.
