Aoyagi Junzō was born March 9, 1900 in Fukuoka Prefecture. He studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi with Fukamachi Shōtō (shakuhachi), Fujishige Shikyo, and Takagi Shūgetsu (shamisen). He began teaching in 1923. He belonged to the Kurume Midori-kai and was an active member of the Hōgaku community for 60 years.
