Born in Kira-cho, Nishio City, Aichi Prefecture, Ōkochi Jun'ya graduated from the Japanese Music Department of Toho Gakuen College of Art and Design. He then graduated from the 55th class of the NHK Japanese Music Skills Development Association.
In addition to performing his own compositions, he actively collaborates with artists from various genres, including orchestras, theater, dance, calligraphy, ink painting, and storytelling, going beyond the usual boundaries of Japanese instrumentalists.
He toured overseas and was awarded the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Overseas Ambassador's Award in 2012, and also performed at many international music festivals held in Japan.
He also produces events and music. In 2014, he held a recital called "The Sound of Rings" at the Nishio Cultural Center Large Hall.
He released his original CDs "Nostalgia" and "Thank You from the Heart."
Ōkochi is currently based in Tokyo, and since 2017 has also been active as a player of the "Okulauro," an instrument that combines the shakuhachi and flute.  He is a lecturer at Senzoku Gakuen College of Music and a lecturer at the Institute of Contemporary Japanese Music.
