Miki Izan

Miki Izan (Miki Toichi) was born February 4, 1901 in Shinei-cho, Tokushima, and worked in the art business. He started shakuhachi lessons with Tozan-ryū master Montō Tomomura in April of 1919, completing his Shoden studies by June. In September, he transferred to master Ōmatsu Reikō and finished his Chuden rank the following February. In June of 1921 he completed the Okuden studies and obtained his teaching license. He received his Jun-Shihan (associate instructor) license in January of 1931 along with the professional name Izan. His hobbies were fishing and reading books.
